Introducing Coles Wind

The Coles Wind project provides an opportunity to help address Illinois's growing electricity demand with clean, homegrown energy, while diversifying Coles County economy and supporting jobs in the local community.

Coles Wind will create jobs and generate an entirely new source of long-term revenue for local schools, governments, and landowners. In the long term, the project promises to bring sustained tax revenue to the county for the local government and schools, as well as more than 30 years of local purchasing, employment, and investment.

AN ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY FOR COLES COUNTY

Coles Wind will create jobs and generate an entirely new source of long-term revenue for Coles County, local government services, and property owners. The total direct financial impact to the region will be in the millions of dollars over the life of the project, with additional indirect economic benefits to the local economy.

ECONOMIC IMPACT ANALYSIS: CLICK HERE TO LEARN HOW COLES COUNTY WOULD BENEFIT FROM COLES WIND

Our analysis quantifies the economic opportunity for Coles County if Coles Wind is constructed. Tax revenues of over $81 million over the life of the project, including over $43 million in taxes for school districts, and new earnings of over $1.8 million annually in Coles County alone once operational.

Additionally, landowners that sign up property for the project will receive annual payments. These payments will continue over the projected 30-year lifespan of the wind farm, injecting tens of millions of dollars into the economy of Coles County to support local merchants, contractors, equipment suppliers, auto dealers, and others. The power from Coles Wind will be delivered into the Illinois electrical grid, reducing the need to import electricity from outside markets.
